How to play Crazy 8 card game
Start with five cards
Eightfern uses one shuffled 52-card deck with no jokers. You and the computer receive five cards each. A non-eight card starts the discard pile, and the remaining cards are the draw stock. You play first.
Match a rank or suit
Choose a legal hand card to put it on the discard pile. It must match the top card’s suit or rank. If the top is the queen of clubs, any club or any queen fits. Red or black alone is not a match: a heart does not fit a diamond just because both are red.
Choose a suit with an eight
An eight fits any card. Select it, then choose Spades, Hearts, Clubs or Diamonds. Choose the suit you want to keep playing. Cancel suit returns you to your hand without playing the eight. After an eight, the next player must match the chosen suit or play another eight.
Draw until a card fits
If your hand cannot play, choose Draw a card. If the new card still does not fit, draw again. Drawing is also allowed when you have a playable card. Drawing does not end your turn; playing a card does. If the stock is empty and you have no legal card, choose Pass. The computer uses these same steps.
Win and blocked rounds
You win by playing the final card in your hand. Your last card can be an eight, but you still choose its suit. This table uses a finite stock without recycling discards. When both players pass because the empty stock offers no move, remaining points settle the round: eights 50; kings, queens, jacks and tens 10; aces 1; other cards their face number. Lower wins; equal scores tie.
Try a small tactic
A wild eight is useful insurance when a suit changes against you. Before spending it, look for an ordinary card that fits. When you do play an eight, choose a suit you still hold. Keeping a large point card can hurt in a blocked round, so consider playing it before a smaller card of the same suit.
Hints and saved rounds
Hint names a playable card and suggests a suit for an eight. It leaves the decision to you. Undo takes back your previous draw or play, including the computer reply. New deal asks before replacing the round. Cards and moves stay in this browser.
The deal, wild eights and draw-until-playable rules follow Bicycle’s Crazy Eights guide. Comparing card points after a blocked round is this table’s stated tiebreak. Skip, reverse, draw-two and last-card penalties are not used.
